NIKE PRO CLUB SWEATER
Design and Design Direction for the Nike Pro Club Sweater.
On March 21, 1975, Nike co-founder Phil Knight created the Nike Pro Club, a team of 10 professional basketball players at the time who came together to develop and improve the Nike’s brand’s offerings to the sport. To celebrate this historic milestone in their venture into basketball, we designed and released a throwback varsity sweater reminiscent of the ones those exclusive members received for being part of the club.
The piece uses a zip-up shawl-collared sweater as its canvas, with various nods to its heritage found all over. Paying homage to Knight, the right chest is emblazoned with a chain-stitched “Phil” autograph sitting above a brightly contrasting yellow “N” logo, with the numbers “75” marked on each sleeve commemorating the year the pro club was founded. Gracing the back of the sweater is a silhouette of one of the team’s original players, complete with Swoosh-carrying footwear, and the writing “Court Session.” The varsity piece then comes in a collectible custom box along with a Nike cloud Swoosh pin.
